Development of Industry Specific Punjab Environment Quality Standards awarded by Strategic Planning and Implementation Unit (SPIU)

The project successfully spearheaded a comprehensive series of stakeholder consultations across Lahore to establish evidence-based Punjab-specific Environmental Quality Standards (PEQS) for sixteen industrial sectors. Spanning five major workshops held between November 2022 and September 2023 at venues like the Four Points by Sheraton and Faletti’s Hotel, the initiative convened a total of 470 participants, including government officials, EPA representatives, industry leaders, technical experts, legal professionals, and academics. Through this collaborative process, the project successfully developed a robust framework for deriving these standards, formulated industry-specific environmental thresholds for gaseous emissions, effluent discharge, solid waste, and noise/vibration, and established specialized sampling methodologies and techniques. These pivotal milestones directly contributed to mitigating industrial pollution, protecting public health, and preserving aquatic and marine ecosystems under Pakistan’s broader pollution control and blue economy agenda.
