Project Overview and Outcomes
The project aims to combat plastic pollution by reducing plastic leakage into rivers and oceans while promoting a circular economy approach. The project focuses on transforming plastic waste into valuable resources through innovative recycling technologies and community-driven solutions. By integrating waste collection systems, product innovation, and stakeholder collaboration, the initiative addresses both environmental and social challenges associated with plastic waste.
The project combines hotspot mapping, waste audits, eco-product development (such as eco-bricks and tiles), deployment of Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs), and extensive community engagement. It actively involves informal waste workers, youth, institutions, and local authorities to create an inclusive and sustainable waste management ecosystem.
Through its implementation, the project demonstrates how technology-driven, locally adapted, and socially inclusive solutions can significantly reduce plastic pollution, strengthen recycling value chains, and contribute to a scalable circular economy model in Pakistan and across South Asia.
Project Objectives
01
Advocacy, mobilization, and capacity building for preserving life below water.
02
Installing a reverse vending machine linked to a reward app (Sustainable Savings- Trash to Cash) and effectively collecting plastic waste adjacent to the Ravi River will establish a circular economy approach.
03
Responsible Consumption and production by redesigning plastic waste for innovative infrastructure.
04
Partnership for actions on plastic-free rivers and seas.
